Growers Edge raises $40M Series C to build full-service AgFintech platform

Growers Edge has closed a $40M Series C led by S2G Investments, with participation from Cibus Capital and Lowercarbon Capital. The raise brings total funding to $78M and will accelerate the buildout of what CEO Sara Menker calls 'the first full-stack financial operating system for row-crop agriculture.' The platform integrates three revenue streams: (1) parametric crop insurance priced on field-level satellite indices rather than county averages, (2) input financing tied to agronomic prescriptions, and (3) automated carbon-credit generation from verified practice changes. The key insight is that all three share the same data backbone — satellite imagery, soil sampling, and machine-as-applied records. Early traction is strong: 8,200 farms across 14 US states are active on the platform, representing 4.1M acres. Net revenue retention exceeds 135%, driven by farmers adding product lines after initial onboarding with insurance. The fintech angle is underappreciated by AgTech investors. US farm operating loans total $180B annually, yet digital penetration is below 3%. Growers Edge is positioned to capture share by embedding financing at the point of agronomic decision — similar to how Shopify Capital embedded lending into e-commerce workflows. The Lowercarbon participation signals that the carbon-credit module may become the primary growth vector. Under the platform's MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) system, farmers can generate and sell Scope 3 credits to food companies without engaging a separate carbon-program aggregator.
