Néboda Farms has quietly put a meaningful marker down in Europe's controlled-environment agriculture space: the Vigo-based agrifoodtech company has closed a €1.84 million seed round to strengthen and validate its pre-industrial vertical farming model. The funding is designed to move beyond promising prototypes and into repeatable, commercially robust operations, exactly the sort of step that separates a clever system from a reliable supply partner.
The investor consortium includes Clave Capital (via Mondragón Fondo de Promoción II), UNIRISCO, Xesgalicia, Eatable Adventures, and CDTI Innovación, a mix that suggests both institutional confidence and strategic alignment with Spain's innovation ecosystem.
What stands out is Néboda's insistence on industrial discipline. The company positions itself not as a lifestyle brand of indoor farming, but as an engineering-led platform: automation, process control and operational efficiency sit at the centre of the story. The numbers are compelling, quadrupling yield per square meter over three years while reducing water usage by over 90%. Their 200 m² pre-industrial facility in Galicia now produces 8,000 kg annually.
A significant portion of the seed funds will flow into automation equipment, seeding, handling, packaging, along with R&D for a new mesclun salad line with pilot launches planned for late 2025. The roadmap is clear: validate metrics, secure long-term supply agreements with Iberian distributors, and prepare for a Series A aimed at building the first industrial-scale plant in 2026.
Beyond Spain, Néboda has begun international expansion. As part of the Desafía AgTech Germany program in late 2025, the company established a presence in the German market and engaged with local partners. In a November 2025 interview, Néboda's team discussed plans to apply their automated vertical farming system, which grows pesticide-free herbs and greens, in Germany's tech-driven agriculture sector. The startup is working to validate its business model with major produce distributors across Iberia and now Germany, aiming to secure long-term supply agreements as it scales internationally.
