Maryland-based Silvec uses a modified citrus tristeza virus to deliver RNA that triggers antimicrobial defensin production in citrus trees, targeting huanglongbing, also known as citrus greening.

The company is backed largely by USDA and the citrus industry and is preparing a Series A round. First treated trees are expected to be commercially available in 2028, with expansion planned to Brazil.
