CarboSlag is a German circular-economy company that processes industrial steel slag together with biomass-derived char to produce low-carbon construction materials and a durable, EU-compliant carbon-removal product. The starting point is not a credit, it is a mineral-processing route that turns two industrial by-products into materials with real demand inside the cement, concrete and soil-input value chains.
The thesis is straightforward: Europe's cement and concrete industry needs every credible decarbonisation lever it can find, and steel slag is already a recognised supplementary cementitious material. CarboSlag's process upgrades that slag with biochar, locking carbon into a stable mineral matrix and delivering an aggregate that fits existing concrete and soil-amendment supply chains without requiring customers to redesign their products.
The team is a German-led founder group with hands-on experience in industrial process engineering, by-product handling and carbon-credit issuance. The current focus is scaling pilot deployments at European steel and forestry sites and signing offtake agreements with corporate buyers, both construction-material customers and high-permanence-credit buyers in tech, financial services and FMCG.
Dirk Vandenhirtz advises CarboSlag on commercial strategy, investor positioning and AgTech distribution channels, bringing relationships with European OEMs, cement producers and farm-input distributors to accelerate the dual go-to-market across construction and soil-amendment buyers alongside the carbon-removal credit business.
